First Bus look to roll out a new fleet of 0 emissions busses in an effort to reduce pollution.
Norfolk County council have approved funding for seventy environmentally friendly electric busses for Norwich City.
This all comes hand in hand with Norfolk Cabinets goal to attain net 0 emissions by 2030, just 7 years time.
This switch is set to reduce C02 emissions by over 80,000 tonnes, as well as stopping the release of 32 air quality reducing fine particles.
This does all come at a cost however, with it costing the council around £14.7 million, and first bus £21 million.
However, global warming is an undeniable issue, and this is a small cost to pay for our planet and Norwich cities residents health.
One first bus customer said “Pollution is a problem, global warming is going to be a problem. We have got to do everything we can to reduce emissions.”
The investment will provide for 55 double decker busses, 15 single decker busses, as well as 57 fast chargers to keep the new electric busses running as efficiently as their gas predecessors
Speaking to the EDP, Graham Plant, the Conservative cabinet member for highway infrastructure and transport said “Being awarded this funding is an extraordinary boost for Norfolk and will greatly support our ambitions to run a net-zero transport system.”
The first electric busses are expected in circulation in March of 2024.
First bus on the other hand have committed to a 0 emission fleet by 2035.
