Supermarket Wine Thief Sentenced

Father of one Donatas Sakalauskas has been sentenced for stealing £87.75 worth of wine from multiple supermarkets in Kings Lynn. The 38 year old stated he was ‘very sorry’ and that he regretted the actions and wanted one last chance when entering the guilty plea.

The first offence occurred on March 12, where he stole £55 worth of wine from Morrisons. He was found on a park bench by police with an open bottle, where the police then noticed the basket filled with 9 more.

Sakalauskas immediately confessed and asked how he should pay for the stolen goods.

He was arrested and given an 8 week suspended sentence, and told he could not shop anywhere except Lidl.

Two days later, Sakalauskas left the store with 6 bottles of wine, where he was stopped by staff and subsequently arrested.

He has been sentenced to 6 and 8 weeks concurrently for the two crimes, as well as having the suspended sentence activated, meaning he will serve 16 weeks total.

He was also fined a £128 victims surcharge, and given a 12 month community sentence upon release.

This is not the first time the Lithuanian has been sentenced, last year he was sentenced for sexual assault after engaging in oral sex with a man in a public park in Kings Lynn while extremely intoxicated, however he did not serve jail time for this.

The defence were insistent Sakalauskas does not have an alcohol addiction,

Upon sentencing, Sakalauskas pled with the magistrates, stating his Aunt would not let him back into the home if arrested again, and asking how he would pay the fine, stating he would loose his job, to which the magistrates replied ‘yes you’re probably right’.
